IPE VENEER (Tabebuia spp.) Common names: Guayacan, lapacho. Source: Latin America, except Chili. Color: Sapwood is yellowish gray to gray-brown. Heartwood light to dark olive brown. Pattern: Closely interlocked grain; fine to medium textured. Characteristics: Very heavy and hard, moderately difficult to machine; generally sinks in water; highly resistant to decay and insects, except marine borers. Uses: Heavy construction, heavy duty flooring, crossties, turnery, decorative veneers and plywood.
