Marwood Company Profile
Founded in 1955
Marwood is a manufacturer, importer and exporter of specialty hardwood veneer and lumber. We are a family-owned and operated company that takes pride in its products and in its three generations of family experience in the business of fancy figured and exotic hardwoods. Among our specialties are American Burl veneers, peeled on our 76 inch (190 mm) long rotary veneer lathe. We have been selling to markets around the world since 1955.

Marwood originally concentrated on fine quality hardwoods, located in its area of Indiana, and then started importing veneers from around the world in 1965. In 1984 we started manufacturing our own veneers, and today Jim and Lyman Martin manage the company.

Below are key reasons why hundreds of manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing and international companies choose Marwood for their veneer and lumber needs.

Quality – Our cutting quality is of the highest standard, and has been praised by top quality buyers from America and European. Marwood’s cutters have 22 years of experience with the intricacies of burl and stump production. We have been importing quality hardwoods for many decades, and have developed a reputation for being knowledgeable about the different grades, colors, availabilities, and manufacturing qualities of many of the world’s finest exotic hardwoods.

Sources – In the United States we have developed relationships with top log producers in many regions. We travel to six continents, and have developed and maintained key sources in many foreign countries. Our staff’s knowledge of German, French, Portuguese, and Spanish facilitates communications with mill personnel in different countries.

Quantity – We are able to buy imports in volume and often combine shipments of lumber and veneer to achieve economies of scale on expensive foreign shipping costs. Upon arrival at our plant, we break down the containers into more manageable quantities for our customers, and separate them into the different grades and figures that our customers require.

Selection – Our inventory of 60 different exotic woods offers many unique grades, and a rainbow of colors. If you don’t see the species of wood you need on our website list, call us about other options. Manufacturers of fine furniture, panels, cabinets, and architectural woodwork often consult with our staff about the palette of veneers and lumber available. Among our specialties are Walnut Burl, Figured Walnut Stumps, Maple Burl and Cluster, Honduras Mahogany, Mappa Burl, Waterfall Bubinga, Santos Rosewood, Tulipwood, and Kingwood.

Service – Our staff strives to meet your requirements. Richard and Steve have 31 years of combined experience in treating and pressing burls, crotches, and other special exotic species. They meticulously work to insure customer satisfaction. After reviewing the customers’ requirements, different flitches are reviewed to best fit your project and samples are often sent out.
